The Advisory Council of the Center for Educational Studies and Research Holds Its First Meeting

The Center for Educational Studies and Research hosted the first meeting of its Advisory Council at its headquarters on the morning of Wednesday, September 30, 2026. The meeting brought together representatives of several governmental and non-governmental institutions, professional organizations, and stakeholders interested in education in Mauritania.

At the opening of the meeting, the President of the Center, Dr. Mokhtar Handa, welcomed the participants and explained that the Center seeks to serve as an active strategic partner in the reform of Mauritania’s education system through research, studies, training, and the creation of platforms for dialogue and consultation, in support of the national efforts undertaken by public authorities to develop the education system.

Members of the Executive Bureau then gave brief presentations on the Center’s various units and programs, covering research, studies and publications; training and studies; the International Conference on Education in Mauritania; membership, partnerships and mobilization; the monthly forum “Debates on Education in Mauritania”; and events, media and communication.

Following the presentations, Council members discussed the programs presented and emphasized the importance of having a specialized center dedicated to educational studies and research. They also stressed the need to continue its work and strengthen its contribution to education reform, which they described as a shared responsibility requiring, alongside the efforts of the State, the involvement of a serious and specialized civil society equipped with the necessary expertise, competencies, and academic qualifications.

The establishment of the Advisory Council is part of the Center’s efforts to strengthen consultation, coordination, and partnerships with the various stakeholders in the education sector and to benefit from their expertise and perspectives in addressing education-related issues in Mauritania.

The meeting was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Islamic Affairs and Original Education; the Ministry of Education and Education System Reform; the Ministry of Social Action, Childhood and Family; the Ministry of Culture, Arts, Communication and Relations with Parliament; the Municipality of Ksar; the National Federation of Associations of Parents of Pupils and Students; the National Federation of Mauritanian Employers; the Coalition of Mauritanian Organizations for Education; the National Union of Stakeholders in Private Education; and the National Union of Mauritanian Employers.
